Resistance exercise training at different loads in frail and healthy older adults: A randomised feasibility trial

چکیده

This trial aimed to determine the feasibility of recruitment, retention, adherence, and safety a resistance training (RT) intervention skeletal muscle failure in both frail non-frail older adults. An 8-week randomised trial. Older adults, with without frailty, recruited from clinics community. Recruitment was based on number participants enrolled those provided Patient Information Sheet (PIS). Retention who completed Adherence RT sessions attended out 16. Outcomes included frailty (Fried criteria), strength (maximal voluntary contraction), functional abilities (Short Physical Performance battery), quality life (EQ-5D-5L), activities daily living (LIADL) (diary). target (n = 60) achieved within 15 months, 58 were high 30) or low repetition-load 28) groups. Mean age 72 years (range 65–93). retention rate for ≥70%. There one serious adverse experience due intervention. no differences (P > 0.05) effects outcome variables between people challenging. adults performing supervised feasible safe, appropriate caution, did not appear influence its efficacy. Future research into effectiveness this simplified model is warranted.

How much will older adults exercise? A feasibility study of aerobic training combined with resistance training

BACKGROUND Both aerobic training (AT) and resistance training (RT) have multidimensional health benefits for older adults including increased life expectancy and decreased risk of chronic diseases. However, the volume (i.e., frequency*time) of AT combined with RT in which untrained older adults can feasibly and safely participate remains unclear. Thus, our primary objective was to investigate t...

Effect of resistance-exercise training on cognitive function in healthy older adults: a review.

Several studies have demonstrated that exercise helps reduce or prevent cognitive deterioration among older adults, and recent studies have further examined the effects of resistance-exercise training on cognition. The purpose of this review was to examine the role of resistance-exercise training on cognition in healthy older adults. Specifically, it describes the definition, health benefits, a...

Intense tai chi exercise training and fall occurrences in older, transitionally frail adults: a randomized, controlled trial.

OBJECTIVES To determine whether an intense tai chi (TC) exercise program could reduce the risk of falls more than a wellness education (WE) program in older adults meeting criteria for transitioning to frailty. DESIGN Randomized, controlled trial of 48 weeks duration. SETTING Twenty congregate living facilities in the greater Atlanta area. PARTICIPANTS Sample of 291 women and 20 men aged ...

Deprescribing in Frail Older People: A Randomised Controlled Trial.

OBJECTIVES Deprescribing has been proposed as a way to reduce polypharmacy in frail older people. We aimed to reduce the number of medicines consumed by people living in residential aged care facilities (RACF). Secondary objectives were to explore the effect of deprescribing on survival, falls, fractures, hospital admissions, cognitive, physical, and bowel function, quality of life, and sleep. ...

Effect of Different Cognitive Loads on Gait Stability in Younger and Older Adults

Purpose: As many older people fall during dual tasks, we aimed to examine the effect of different cognitive loads on learning gait stability in younger and older adults. Methods: 10 younger (Mean±SD age: 25.91±3.42 years) and 10 older adults (Mean±SD: 66.65±4.28 years) were healthy volunteers without a history of falls. They were asked to do three tasks on a treadmill with cognitive load (none...
